Gossip Girl and all it's Gossips
SPOILER ALERT- if you haven't watched the show, there is a lot of spoilers here!
It’s a bittersweet moment when you finish a tv show.
I have just finished Gossip Girl which had 6 seasons so of course, I fell in love with the characters and the story plot.
Gossip girl for anyone who doesn’t know is a teen drama which follows privileged teenagers who live on the Upper East Side in New York with a blogger who exposes their secrets.
In today’s post, I want to talk about Gossip Girl and my opinion on it.
Gossip girl Relationships
What I think of Chair?
I don’t know where to start with Chair. (They are literally a rollercoaster)
Chair is the ship name of Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf. They are the best couple and they brought so much to the show.
At some points they were toxic but they made each other happy and loved each other in a way we all want to love someone one-day making Chair relationship goals.
They were the only couple that could make us feel something. My emotions were everywhere while watching them.
They showed us that trust and honesty are the most important in any relationship and that if you truly love someone, you will fight for them.
Of course, they had many problems but which relationship doesn’t have problems? Their problems are just more Upper East Side than our problems.
My favourite Chair scene is in season 4 episode 7 when they say they hate each other. The camera and editing work is done so well, the music is perfect and I think this is one of their most passionate scenes and it shows Leightons (Blair) and Ed’s (Chucks) real-life chemistry. I still get butterflies from that scene.
Of course, the Chair proposal and wedding was cute but like most Chair fans, I wish we had a longer Chair wedding and seen more of them in their married life. After all, we have been through in the 6 seasons.
What I think of Derena?
Derena is a ship name for Dan Humphrey and Serena Van Der Woodsen.
Even though Blake (Serena) and Penn (Dan) have great on-screen chemistry, I’m not a big fan of Derena myself.
It is a nice relationship and at the beginning of the show it was cute but at the end of the series finale, their relationship was rushed. Like really rushed.
I feel that Dan and Serena changed from when they dated in high school and that Vanessa Abrams and Dan were way better for each other, just like Nate Archibald and Serena, now that they are older.
Nate understands Serena and doesn’t judge her for her “world” and he always protects her even when she chose Dan and Tripp over him. Several times.
Vanessa gets Dan, they come from the same world and they are both creative, helping each other grow with some healthy competition. And who doesn’t love some competition?
Even though I am not a big fan of Derena, their relationship had some cute moments especially their wedding at the end of the show with everyone attending and reunited.
Who should’ve ended up with who?
Like I mentioned already, I think Dan and Vanessa were perfect for each other.
Also Nate and Serena but since Serena ended up with Dan (ugh), I think Nate and Sage Spence should’ve been endgame. What do you think?
Nate and Sage only had a 4 year age difference which isn’t a lot especially when she gets into her 20s, that age difference is normal. She cared for him and Nate cared for her, they were perfect for each other.
Since Serena and Dan ended up together, I feel like Nate should’ve ended up with Sage. Either way, I feel sorry for Nate because he ended up single, he deserved better.
Gossip Girl Characters
My favourite Character
I don’t even have to think about this.
Blair Waldorf is my favourite female character and Chuck Bass is my favourite male character! Surprising I know haha.
Blair is an independent, confident, strong young woman who wants to build her own empire and be a queen.
I admire her for that. I myself love business and I want to build something that I’ll be proud of when I’m retired and I see that part of me in Blair.
She’s smart, clever and intelligent. She's a schemer. This side of her gave a spark to the show. It was so much fun watching scenes when Blair planned a scheme and took action. Honestly, I wish I could pull off a scheme or few to get out of certain situations.
I would love to have Blair’s confidence and the ability to go after what I want. Wouldn’t you?
Chuck is the male version of Blair pretty much. He’s a businessman who wants to grow his empire.
He’s smart and clever. Like Blair, he is a schemer and has games of his own. And of course, it helps that Ed who plays Chuck is super hot too haha.
I think Chuck had one of the best character developments in the show. Even though I liked him from the beginning, I grew to love him by the end. Like really love him, like where can I find myself a Chuck Bass.
The way Chuck changes shows us that a person can mature and change. Inspiring all of us to work on our better selves.
Both Chuck and Blair added so much to the show, so no wonder they are the iconic characters. And I will definitely rewatch the show just to see them again.
My least favourite character
That’s an easy answer, Jenny Humphrey and Bart Bass. Duh!
I feel like out of all the characters Jenny had the worst character development. (not including Vanessa and Dan)
She acted out so much, never listened to Rufus and always did stuff she knew she shouldn’t, just to prove to people that she doesn’t care and to ruin things for others. Ugh!
She nearly ruined her friendship with Eric, her relationship with Rufus and Serena.
She tried to steal Nate from Serena by making Serena look bad, broke up Chuck and Blair (that was the last straw, to be honest) and she was about to break up Rufus and Lily, which she luckily failed at.
She hates Blair and the mean girls but I feel like she was way worse than all of them combined by season four. She even came back to the city to mess with Serena. Like hasn't she done enough already!
I don’t think I even have to explain why Bart Bass is my least favourite male character. If you watched the show, you know.
He tried to kill his own son, TWICE. He manipulated everyone. And overall he’s definitely the villain of the whole show. But well done to the writer because he was a good villain, annoying but good nonetheless.
Georgina Sparks and Jack Bass
Georgina is supposed to be seen as a villain but she’s one of the most iconic reoccurring characters.
I think she actually cares about Blair, Chuck, Nate, Serena and Dan, in her own little way. She has helped them many times and has always tried to join their schemes. But of course most of the times they wouldn’t let her, which is why she schemed against them, to have her own fun.
I feel like Georgina just wanted to part of the group and felt left out especially when Serena stopped partying. She isn’t included as much and is usually banished by Blair.
But by the end of the series, it’s clear that she thinks of them as friends, because she helps with Chair’s wedding and doesn’t tell the cops on Chuck's and Blair’s whereabouts.
She is then seen at the end at Derena's wedding, which shows that they finally accepted her into their little group. Yay!
Jack Bass is a character that is most hated at first but liked at the end. And I am one of those people that had this change.
I know I definitely hated him through season 2-4, after all, he did try and destroy Chuck. Many times!
From season 5 to season 6, we see a different side to Jack that he actually cares for Chuck. He helps him with Russel Thorpe, gets Blair and Chuck back together in Monte Carlo and helps them arrange their wedding.
By the end of the series, I loved the relationship between Chuck and Jack and actually wished Jack was Chuck's biological father. Their relationship grew a lot.
Of course, Jack did a lot of bad things, not only to Chuck but Blair and Lily. But he is another example that people can change and mature.
In the 5-year time jump, Georgina and Jack are seen as a couple and honestly, that is one of the best iconic couples as well. Of course second after Chair. They fit perfectly together and I wish we had seen them together earlier in the show and the beginning of their relationship.
Gossip Girl Review
I love this show. It’s definitely one of the best shows that is out there and will be in the next years.
I don’t usually like rewatching shows and movies but I will definitely be rewatching Gossip Girl many time. And I mean MANY TIMES.
The chemistry on the show is amazing. The best chemistry would be between Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick. Obviously haha.
Since Blair and Chuck were not meant to be a couple but after the writers saw Leighton’s and Ed’s chemistry they wrote in this amazing couple which became the centre of the show. And I am so happy they did.
The acting in the show is amazing as well.
According to Joshua Safran, Blake Lively and Leighton Meester weren’t even close friends while on the set of Gossip Girl, yet on the show, they were best friends and it truly seemed like they were.
I liked the last episode of Gossip Girl but I do think it was rushed. It seemed like they wanted to finish the show as quick as possible by fitting in two weddings, doing a time jump and revealing Gossip Girl.
The episodes up until episode 9 were steady and normal but episode 9 and 10 were just rushed and everything seemed to be thrown in just to finish the show faster.
Of course, after waiting 6 seasons to find out who is Gossip Girl I was kinda disappointed about who it was. I personally would’ve like Dorota to have been Gossip Girl. It would have made the ending of the show so much better. But their ending made sense as well.
Overall Gossip Girl is an amazing show, I’d give 5/5 stars and would recommend everyone to watch it. Like literally drop everything right now and GO WATCH or REWATCH!
If you have watched it, who’s your favourite Character/Couple? And your least favourite? And what is your favourite scene? Let's have a conversation in the comments!
I’ll see you all next week with a new blog post.
Yours Truly,
E. xxx
