What’s it like flying after lockdown?!
Flying right now is kinda scary and it feels unusual but actually, that is complete nonsense.
If you are curious about what’s it like flying after lockdown, keep reading to find out my experience.
*I didn’t take any pictures during my time at the airport so this post won’t have a lot of them but I did find ones online that are similar to the airport I was at*
My flight
I don’t recommend for everyone to just start flying everywhere out of the sudden.
Even though we all want to go on holiday especially during summer we need to be cautious.
I personally was flying back home to see family which I haven’t seen in ages.
The airport
The airport had markings everywhere to show where to stand to make sure we are social distancing.
Just like in any shop or public place.
Everyone wore masks throughout the airport except the areas where there wasn't a lot of people, so people just lowered their masks.
The shops were all open.
And like in normal town shops, there was a screen protecting you and the employee.
The only thing was that Starbucks wasn’t open, but other coffee shops were so you could still get something to drink and eat if you wanted.
The atmosphere in the airport was nice and not as rushed as I thought it would be.
Boarding the plane
We all kept 2m or 6ft apart while waiting to board the plane.
The seats around the gate were divided to be 2m apart but even though there was less seats everyone had a place to sit.
When it was time to board the plane we were all called in groups.
They called people to board by their seat number so for example, rows 31-23, then 23-15 and then 15-1.
We were asked to remove the masks for a second so they could check the photo on our passports but the whole time masks were on.
The boarding process was very easy and faster than I have ever experienced.
The flight
As we walked into the plane we received a “care envelope” with two anti-bacterial wipes and a mask.
We had to wear masks throughout the whole flight unless we were eating or drinking.
It was hard to wear the mask for the whole flight because it was quite stuffy but the AC helped a lot.
We were given the inflight magazine which you could keep due to hygienic purposes.
We could only pay with a card. Notes and coins weren’t accepted.
There was no social distancing on the flight.
By no social distancing I mean, everyone sat beside each other as they would normally.
There wasn’t anything dividing the 2m/6ft between seats. All seats - the window, middle and aisle- have people sitting in them.
No queues to the toilets were allowed.
Leaving the flight
Even though we were told before landing and it was said on the information cards we received that we will be leaving according to our seats numbers.
(Like boarding the plane).
We weren’t!
Like every flight before lockdown, when the plane landed everyone got up.
Got our bags from the overhead storage space.
And we all left at the same time.
We weren’t called by the groups like we were when boarding.
We continued to wear our masks throughout the airport only removing them for a bit when going through security again.
After all they do need to see your whole face to make sure it’s you haha.
Overall
The flight process was easy.
The staff in the airports were very friendly, making jokes and lighting up the atmosphere.
There were not a lot of people there, still more than I expected but not as much as usual. Even though one coffee shop was full of people eating and drinking.
Most shops were open and everything was made to be safe.
I enjoyed this new way of flying.
The arrival area where people usually wait for the arrived was empty, seemed like no-one was meeting anyone at the airport.
And if you really need to go somewhere, don’t be scared everything is made to be perfectly safe.
I love travelling and can’t wait to have more travel content for you. Where do you want to travel? Let me know!!
Yours truly,
E.xxx
